Ecommerce merchants are bullish on utilizing fulfillment and order management, says a new research report from ShipBob.

ShipBob is a global supply chain and fulfillment platform for small to mid-market ecommerce merchants. It has published its fourth annual State of Ecommerce Fulfillment report. The report draws on proprietary data from thousands of ShipBob customers and survey responses from over 550 ecommerce executives who collectively shipped hundreds of millions of units in 2024.

The new ShipBob report finds that 80% of ecommerce brands experienced revenue growth in 2024. The report draws on proprietary data from thousands of ShipBob customers and survey responses from over 550 ecommerce executives who collectively shipped hundreds of millions of units in 2024, the company says.

Key insights from ShipBob State of Ecommerce Fulfillment report

80% of ecommerce brands experienced revenue growth in 2024, according to the report. And more than 50% of U.S. ecommerce orders were concentrated in eight states: California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia.

56% of brands currently operate on three or more sales channels. Additionally, 63% of brands plan to add at least one new sales channel in 2025.

As far as fulfillment foes, ShipBob found that:

    • 25% of brands aim to begin fulfilling orders in new countries in 2025.
    • 38% of brands intend to increase the number of fulfillment centers they use in 2025.
    • 64% of brands incorporate customization, such as branded packaging or marketing inserts, into their order fulfillment.

ShipBob noted a 40% year-over-year increase in orders fulfilled during the 2024 peak season, spanning Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday.

“It (the findings) illustrates how brands are focusing on fulfillment as a differentiator in the new year,” says ShipBob CEO and co-founder Dhruv Saxena.
