For resort, the team at Carven continued building upon the codes created by Louise Trotter during her short but well-received tenure. Starting with a “structured femininity,” the studio explored “lightness without losing form and structure,” evident in the use of white poplin. A blouse with an attached scarf flung just so around the neck, and the sweetheart babydoll tank layered over a short-sleeve button-down shirt and worn with matching wide-leg trousers were all cut in the classic fabric. The layering of the shirts was unexpected and a little awkward, which brought a kind of charm to the look. Elsewhere, oversized tank dresses in shiny double-weave silk and trench coats in silk nylon threaded a fine line between the formal and the everyday. The back was emphasized with sensual openings and jewelry worn backward, evidence of Carven’s desire to create clothes for multifaceted women with busy lives out in the real world beyond the front-facing world of their phones.
