I Review Clothes for a Living, and This Trench Coat Is One of My Favorite Purchases

I’ve lived in New York City for two years, and if there’s anything that living in the Big Apple has taught me thus far, it’s how to save closet space in a small apartment. To avoid using my oven for shoe storage à la Carrie Bradshaw, I have seriously cut back on what new clothes I bring into my space, making sure I only add new items to my wardrobe if they are high-quality, versatile, and necessary. 

Case in point: Two months ago, I realized I was in dire need of a weatherproof jacket that was travel-friendly, yet stylish enough for my office commute. Keeping my three must-have qualifiers in mind, I began my hunt for the perfect rain jacket — and I soon found it in the Sebby Soft Shell Trench Coat. Windproof and water-resistant, this travel-friendly coat marries the functionality of a weatherproof jacket with the effortless aesthetic of a classic trench coat. Lightweight and packable, its simple, thigh-length silhouette and cinching waist belt make it versatile enough to style on top of dresses, jeans, or office attire. 

Don’t let the trim, tapered look full you, though; It’s deceivingly warm, too. The interior is fully lined with a super soft, thick fabric that works in tandem with the durable exterior to trap heat. While it’s technically not a winter coat, I’ve worn my Sebby trench coat out several times this winter, pairing it with a chunky scarf, thick sweater, and windproof gloves on extra chilly days.

I’m happy to report that this trench coat has kept me dry and toasty in the rain, sleet, and snow, thanks to its windproof, water-repellant exterior, double-breasted collar, front button closure, and detachable hood. It also has a split seam in the back for airflow and flexibility. On clear, sunny days, I’ll take the hood off, slipping it into my handbag just in case the forecast takes an unexpected turn. 

Available in eight colors, this Sebby trench coat is carried in sizes small up to a size 3XL. Depending on the item, I fluctuate between a dress size of 14 and 16, putting me smack dab in the middle of two of their size offerings: large, meant to fit women’s sizes 12 to 14, and extra-large, suited for sizes 16 to 18. I decided to size up for some extra space, and I’m so glad I did. The extra room allows me to easily layer up (a must for frigid NYC winters!).

I’ve taken this jacket with me on two flights so far, and I had no problem packing it into my carry-on.
