The next owner of this Brooklyn townhouse can’t be afraid of a little color, specifically the color green. A careful restoration and polychromatic update gave this 19th-century Cobble Hill home a big personality, and if you’re in the market for something eye-catching, it’ll run you just shy of $13 million.

According to the listing, the Italianate-style abode on tree-lined Clinton Street dates back to 1884 when it was built by architect Fred Lockwood. More recently, the 25-foot-wide spread underwent a richly hued transformation at the hands of Made, a Brooklyn-based design/build firm whose clients include Lily Allen and David Harbour. The revamp preserved much of the home’s original details while also incorporating new materials in a modern way.

“The liberal use of color, particularly through tiling, creates specificity in each of the home’s spaces, from the foyer to the bathrooms,” notes the listing, which is being held by Compass agent Nick Gavin of Nick Gavin Properties. “The result is a timeless homage to the home’s captivating history while simultaneously forging a refined new heritage.”

Set over five floors, the digs comprise six bedrooms and six baths across 5,500 square feet. Entering on the parlor floor, you’ll find soaring 12-foot ceilings, checkered reclaimed marbled floors in the foyer, and lots of ornate moldings. Nearby, the living room features newly restored stained-glass windows, herringbone floors with an inlaid Greek key border, Cipollino marble radiator covers, and the original mantel around the wood-burning fireplace.

Past a set of pocket doors, the floors of the dining room are decked out with glossy, parsley-hued tiles from Ait Manos, which you’ll also find in the kitchen, but more on that in a bit. The room includes a second wood-burning fireplace, a patterned ceiling with coved edges, and tall windows, one that opens to a deck overlooking the backyard. Once you do step into the kitchen, a sculptural eat-in island is encased in the same parsley green tiles as the floor. Handmade Zuber wallpaper depicting palm fronds carries on with the green theme, which is complemented by bookmatched walnut cabinetry, ruby red stone countertops and backsplashes, and top-of-the-line Gaggenau appliances.

A stunning mint green staircase leads up to the third floor, where the principal suite stands apart with two more fireplaces, one in the bedroom and the other in a huge dressing room, a walk-in closet, and not one but two full bathrooms, one of which sports blue and green checkered tile while the other is wrapped in dark blue tile. There’s also a small home office on this floor.

Three additional bedrooms and a bathroom can be found on the fourth level, plus a flex space that can double as a library or playroom, while the top floor has a bathroom between two large rooms that offer an abundance of options for a home office, an art studio, and/or additional bedrooms. Adding to its appeal as a multi-generational home or one that provides some income, a two-bedroom, one-bath apartment on the garden floor has its own entrance, a nice-sized living room, a full kitchen, and a bonus room off of the larger bedroom.
