The USPS is temporarily suspending package acceptance of parcels from China and Hong Kong Posts until further notice. Letters and flats will not be impacted.

Because the language states the US Postal Service is suspending “acceptance” of such packages, one could presume parcels already accepted into the postal system would continue to be processed. If so, whether there will be delays in processing those packages already in the system is uncertain.

The announcement came the same day the US-imposed tariffs against China took effect (see President Trump’s February 1st Executive Order on the WhiteHouse.gov website).

The announcement posted on the USPS Newsroom on February 4, 2025, states the following:

    Temporary Service Disruption
Effective Feb. 4, the Postal Service will temporarily suspend only international package acceptance of inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong Posts until further notice. Note the flow of letters and flats from China and Hong Kong will not be impacted.
