A federal jury in Georgia awarded $2.5 billion in punitive damages against Ford Motors on Friday, finding the automotive manufacturer liable for a faulty roof on a 2015 F250 Super Duty truck that collapsed and crushed two people.

In the second phase of the verdict on Friday, a jury for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia hit Ford with $2.5 billion in punitive damages following the first phase’s $30.5 million verdict for compensatory damages. U.S. District Judge Clay D. Land oversaw the trial in the case captioned Brogdon v. Ford Motor Co.
