Tom Schwartz is a big fan of Katie Maloney’s new boyfriend.
The Vanderpump Rules alum expressed approval during a red-carpet interview in Los Angeles, just several months after Katie confirmed she was dating musician Nick Martin. Tom addressed the relationship news in a November 2024 interview with Page Six, saying he was “happy” for his ex-wife but had yet to meet her new man. That all changed, however, when Tom met up with Katie earlier this month.
Tom shares his first impression of Katie’s boyfriend, Nick Martin
“Me and Katie still have joint custody of Gordo and Butters, and she dropped the dogs off yesterday,” he told E! News during the LA Art Show Opening Night Premiere Party. “But I met Nick, and he’s so cool, so down to earth, and obviously a rockstar. Listen, I love seeing her happy. If she’s happy, I’m happy.”
So what was Tom’s first impression of the Sleeping with Sirens guitarist?
“Stud. I mean, He’s a rockstar!” Tom continued. “Listen, Katie has always dated musicians. I was an anomaly. I was the odd man out. I think I’m the only non-musician she’s ever dated — married twice. I have nothing but love and respect for Katie and we’re on great terms. It feels great to say that. There’s no drama.”
Katie opens up about her divorce from Tom: “I’ve grown a lot”
Tom and Katie began dating in 2011, a couple of years before the Vanderpump Rules series premiere. Although the couple had their fair share of ups and downs, they eventually exchanged “I dos” in 2016 but didn’t get legally married until 2019.
Fast-forward to 2022, when Katie announced she had filed for divorce. The former SUR-ver explained her decision during a 2024 appearance on the Brutally Honest Anna podcast, saying she and Tom simply grew apart.
“A lot of times, I think he is still the same person that I married. And that person is wonderful,” she explained. “But that person, I also fell in love with when I was 25 years old. I’ve grown a lot. I feel like I really had to drag him through a lot of phases in life… committing, moving in together, getting engaged, getting married, talking about having kids. All of those things… I don’t know why I did that. He was just so unsure.”
She continued: “There was a lot of hurt that was built up. He cheated on me in the past — and so there were things I hadn’t healed from that were definitely weighing on me and affected my feelings towards him. But, all in all, I was still very much in love with this person and wanted to be with them but they just didn’t know how.”
