It’s Official: Joann Fabrics Is Going Out of Business and Closing All Stores

Sad news has arrived for knitters, quilters, and crafters everywhere: Joann Fabrics is officially closing all stores for good. To take advantage of going-out-of-business sales (and say goodbye to this crafting staple) read below for must-know details of the chain’s closure.

Saying Farewell to Joann Fabrics

Trouble first began brewing when the brand filed its second bankruptcy in January of this year. Then, the retailer announced it would be closing 500 stores and keeping 300 open. After a comprehensive sale process and auction, the winning bidders acquiring Joann’s assets initiated going-out-of-business sales and a wind-down of ongoing operations.

Because the entire brand is shutting down, you’ll be able to take advantage of closing sales in person and on Joann’s website—a sliver of good news for those who can’t make it to their nearest store before it closes.

“I’m so sad,” commented one user in a Reddit thread. “Being able to go to a store with such a wide collection at affordable prices was creative heaven.”

“I’m honestly devastated,” said another Reddit commenter in a thread. “My local store was a community hub for a lot of people in my area.”

When Will Everything Close?

“Subject to court approval of the sale transaction, we expect to begin, or in some cases continue, going-out-of-business sales at all locations immediately,” said the official Joann Fabrics Restructuring website.

The company also stated that final sales will take several weeks to complete, and they will continue to communicate with customers on dates for store closures or changes to the website and app. If you haven’t used your Joann Fabrics gift card yet, make sure to use it before February 28th, as the brand will no longer accept them after that. The stores will also no longer be accepting returns.

“We deeply appreciate our dedicated Team Members, our customers, and communities across the nation for their unwavering support for more than 80 years,” said a spokesperson for Joann Fabrics in a press release.

The craft supply company created an official website regarding the news of the shutdown, where you can find more information on the process behind the shutdown.
