After kicking the can down the road, the U.S. Supreme Court is still facing a high-profile standoff between President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice and the head of a federal watchdog agency he wants to fire.
On Thursday morning, Special Counsel Hampton Dellinger told the Supreme Court to hold off on intervening in the case after a federal judge sitting in Washington extended an order blocking the White House from removing Dellinger from the Office of Special Counsel. The OSC is an independent agency that investigates complaints from federal employees, including whistleblower retaliation, and has the authority to bring cases before a workplace dispute board.
