The Ford Explorer is getting the Tremor off-road treatment. Ford CEO Jim Farley took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce “a new addition to the Tremor family,” with a teaser shot that included the Explorer’s tailgate badge.
If you don’t follow Ford closely, the brand’s various off-road packages can get confusing. A Tremor model is typically aimed at the off-road market but without a Raptor model’s extreme performance or price.
Today, Ford sells Tremor editions of its F-150, Super Duty, Maverick, and Expedition. It also sells a Ranger Tremor in the Australian market, but not stateside.
A Tremor typically features improved ground clearance, skid plates, and updates to suspension and drive modes to suit particular types of terrain. It does not usually include powertrain upgrades or the extreme suspension common to Raptor models, keeping prices reasonable.
You spot a Tremor thanks to exterior trim detailing in a shade Ford calls “Electric Space Orange” and everyone else calls yellow. Designers also use the color as an accent inside.
The Explorer has had an off-road specialist trim before. The short-lived Explorer Timberline featured much of the equipment we’d expect to see on a Tremor. Calling it Tremor instead will bring branding in line with other Ford off-road products, helping shoppers understand what they’re looking at.
Farley did not mention when the Explorer Tremor would be available.
