Here are 8 simple ideas to help you feel more balanced, energized, and refreshed this season.

    1. Let in natural light

    Spring means longer days and more sunshine, an easy way to lift your mood and energy. “Exposure to sunlight helps your body produce vitamin D, which is essential for immune function, regulating your mood, and overall well-being,” says Kelly Piez, wellness entrepreneur, educator, and creator of Glow And Grow Wellness. She recommends starting simple: “Open your curtains and let the sun in. Natural light can really improve your environment and make you feel more awake and energized.”

    Jessica Buettner, social media coordinator and marketing chair of The Juniper Center, couldn’t agree more. “With the weather changing and the sun shining more, it’s the perfect time to catch some spring fever. The sunlight lets in natural light, which helps you save on electricity, while the fresh air leaves you feeling refreshed and peaceful. Spring is all about enjoying the beautiful weather, so make sure you take advantage of it whenever you can.”

    2. Incorporate more plants into your home

    Adding plants to your space is an easy way to refresh your home for spring and your mindset. Elizabeth Robb, Health and Wellness Holistic Nutritionist-Turned-CEO of Greater Wellness Holistics explains, “Plants improve air quality and provide a calming, energizing effect.” Plus, taking care of them can give you a sense of accomplishment and peace. Whether you’re new to plant care or an experienced gardener, the greenery will help your home feel more alive and vibrant.

    3. Declutter to create calm

    If your space feels chaotic, it can affect your mood and energy. Spring is the perfect time to clear out clutter and create a peaceful, organized environment. Health & Wellness Coach, Dianna Carr from Bee Well Health Coaching suggests, “Decluttering reduces stress, increases focus, and invites fresh energy into your space.” Start small—maybe tackle one drawer or closet at a time—and you’ll likely notice a sense of clarity and renewal as you make room for the season ahead. 

    Deborah Watson, owner of MatWorkz Pilates Studio, echoes this idea, saying, “This spring, the concept of spring cleaning is more meaningful than ever. In past years, simply changing a lampshade was enough to feel refreshed. But this year, there’s a deeper dive into boxes that have been sitting on the top shelf of the closet for years. There’s something freeing about clearing out that space, letting go of items that haven’t been thought about in ages, and not rushing to fill the empty space created.”     

    4. Create a cozy, relaxing corner

    Having a space in your home to unwind and recharge is so important for your mental well-being. A cozy corner gives you a dedicated spot to escape from the chaos of daily life and take a moment to relax. Whether it’s a comfy chair, soft lighting, or your favorite book, this little space becomes your own sanctuary, helping you clear your mind and reduce stress. It’s amazing how a simple corner filled with comforting textures and calming elements can boost your energy and improve your mood, offering a peaceful retreat whenever you need it.

    5. Revitalize with quick breathwork

    Spring cleaning and home updates can be exciting, but they often come with stress, whether it’s managing repairs, dealing with renovations, or simply trying to keep everything in order. When overwhelm creeps in, Chris Alto, CEO of Zipper and a Registered Yoga Teacher, offers a simple way to reset your energy. “If you’re feeling stressed or out of balance this spring, try incorporating breathwork into your routine,” suggests Alto. “One technique I love is ‘box breathing.’ Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, and hold again for 4 seconds. Picture a box as you breathe, and repeat it 10 times.”

    Taking just a few minutes to pause and breathe can help clear your mind, reduce stress, and re-energize you to tackle your to-do list. It’s a small but powerful habit to stay grounded and manage the tasks that come with owning or renting a home, all while maintaining your mental and physical well-being this spring.

    6. Warming up your home 

    Brittany Steffen, MS, LMFT, Certified Integrated Intimacy Professional from Steffen Counseling Services, points out that small changes in your home can make a huge difference in how you feel.  “Warming up your home with simple changes can make a big impact on your overall well-being. Incorporate soft, earthy tones, cozy textures like throw blankets and rugs, and warm lighting to create a calming atmosphere. Adding personal touches, such as meaningful artwork or cherished decor  (it doesn’t have to be expensive), can help make the space feel inviting and emotionally grounding, rather than cold and sterile.”

    Warming up your home 

    7. Create a dedicated workout space 

    Heidi Garcia, a pilates instructor at Heidi’s Spot, shares a great reminder: “If it’s still too cold to get out for a walk, make sure your workout space is ready to go. It’s important to take care of yourself indoors too. Think of yourself like a plant. You need water, food, sunlight, and a fresh environment to thrive.” Creating a workout space at home is about more than just having the right equipment—it’s about setting yourself up for success and focus. Whether you’ve got a full gym at home or just a small corner of your living room, this space should inspire you to stick with your routine and keep you on track with your fitness goals. Here’s how to make that space work for you:

    Create a wellness routine

    Building a wellness routine is a great way to nurture your physical and mental health. It’s not just about squeezing in a workout; it’s about creating a lifestyle that supports your overall well-being. Jaden Zhao, a yoga instructor from Jiaren Yoga, highlights how important it is to develop a routine that works for you, especially as we move into spring. “Incorporate mindful activities like morning yoga stretches or breathwork to help boost your energy and focus,” she suggests. If you’re interested in mixing things up with a combination of at-home workouts and outdoor activities, joining a yoga community can make a big difference. For those in the Santa Clara, CA area, Jiaren Yoga, located next to Jiaren Café, offers a welcoming space to connect, recharge, and deepen your practice.”

    Refresh your energy

    Monique Alloway, founder of The House Pilates, believes spring is the perfect time to revitalize yourself with movement. “Spring is a great time to shake off the sluggishness of winter and move your body. Start your mornings with a few minutes of pilates. Spinal roll-downs or standing roll-ups are perfect for waking up your body and getting your blood flowing. Breathe deeply, stretch, and soak in some natural light. Even a quick, daily routine can leave you feeling more balanced and refreshed throughout the season.”

    Reset body and mind

    Jacqueline Hinton studio owner and lead instructor of Good Body Pilates Studio sees spring as the perfect time to hit reset. “Spring is all about fresh starts. Begin your day with some gentle pilates to wake up your body, improve your posture, and get your circulation going. You can also do simple stretches throughout the day to keep your energy flowing.” 

    Commit to quick core workout 

    DeeDee and the LSQP Team at Logan Square Pilates + Core Studio suggest dedicating just 15 minutes a day to core work. “This spring, boost your energy by committing to just 15 minutes of core exercises every day. A strong core improves posture, reduces aches from sitting, and makes everything easier, whether you’re gardening, cleaning, or just enjoying the outdoors. Try pilates moves like planks, leg lifts, or roll-ups to build strength and feel more energized all season long.”

    Strengthen your body with weight training

    Larry Pollock, owner of the Underground Performance Gym, highlights the importance of  strength training at home. “It helps your muscles fight fatigue and builds overall strength. Whether you’re just starting out or are a seasoned athlete, adding strength training to your routine will improve your physical health and performance. Grab some weights and start building your strength.”

    Energize with pilates

    Dr. Allie Duffy, founder of The Pilates Rx, suggests using pilates to shake off winter sluggishness. “As the seasons shift, it’s the perfect time to shake off any winter sluggishness with movement. Start with a few energizing pilates exercises: 

    1. Spinal Roll Downs to release tension and wake up your spine. 
    2. Cat-Cow stretches to improve mobility and circulation. 
    3. Standing Leg Swings to activate the lower body and improve balance.

    Adding these pilates exercises to your routine will help you shake off the winter blues and feel more energized as you welcome the new season.”

    Add joy to your movement with dance

    Rosanne Russell, owner of Move2Joy Yoga Studio encourages adding a little fun to your at home workout routine. “Spring is the perfect time to move your body and awaken your energy. Start by gently moving your major joints. Roll your shoulders, sway your hips, bend your knees, and twist your spine. Then, turn on your favorite song and just dance! Most songs are about four minutes long, so pick three for a fun, 12-minute dance session. Bonus: hum along to stimulate the vagus nerve, which helps calm your nervous system and promotes relaxation.”

    Kayla Brugger, founder of Pilates body by Kayla, sums up the importance of creating a dedicated workout space perfectly. “Refresh your space, refresh your energy. This spring, create a spot in your home just for movement, whether it’s a cozy corner in your bedroom, a cleared-out area in the living room, or a sunny spot on your patio. Find a place with natural light and keep it clutter-free. A clean, open space will help you stay motivated and consistent. Store your mat, weights, and props in a basket or on a shelf so they’re always ready to go. Adding a plant, a candle, or some soft lighting will make the space feel even more inviting. When your environment feels fresh and energizing, it’s so much easier to show up for your workouts.”

    8. Create a photo wall 

    A gallery wall is a wonderful way to showcase your spring memories and share creative ways to display photos in your home, whether they’re from past seasons or the moments you’re capturing this year. Cathi Nelson, founder of The Photo Managers, highlights how this season of renewal offers a great opportunity to organize and display the special moments in your life. “Spring is a season of vibrant memories, flowers blooming, Easter celebrations, graduations, and weddings. Before these joyful moments arrive, take a few minutes to think about the photos you want to capture. As the season unfolds, create a digital or printed album to keep your best shots and clear out the rest.”
