Ford has issued a second recall for 152 Transit Connect vans from model years 2019-2020 because some might not have been repaired correctly under an earlier recall.

The company recalled about 2,900 Transit Connect compact vans in 2020 because engineers had incorrectly calibrated a failsafe cooling system. Ford fixed the problem, for most, with a software update.

But Ford recently learned that the system dealers used to upload software patches could sometimes report a successful installation even when it failed. This caused dealers to unknowingly return some vehicles to owners as fixed when, in fact, they weren’t.

Ford can identify which vehicles received a failed software update. So the company has spent the past month repeating dozens of older recalls, fixing the ones that failed the first time.

Dealers have a new system for installing updates, which lets them verify success before returning a car to its owner. They’ll fix this problem by installing the same software update as last time but ensuring that the upload succeeds.

Recall repairs are always free. By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner, but they don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car needs any critical safety repairs at our recall center.
