Knobs, cup pulls, bar pulls, drop handles, backplate knobs, latch hardware—there’s no shortage of ways to dress your cabinet doors, especially this year. “2025 is all about adding personality and unique details to home design, and a great way to achieve that is through creative or custom knobs and pulls,” says Miranda Cullen, owner of Inside Stories. “Though a small detail, hardware plays a significant role in enhancing cabinetry, offering a unique and impactful design element,” she says.

Whether you’re diving into a full remodel or just refreshing your space with a quick hardware swap, our 2025 hardware trend report is packed with inspiration to help you navigate the endless possibilities. Read on to discover the six top hardware trends of the year.

    1. Funky Shapes and Textures

Katie Schroder, owner and founder of Atelier Interior Design, says to expect hardware that goes well beyond the standard bar pull or round knob. She notes a growing interest in unique materials like marble and wood, along with designs that range from bold, angular shapes to fully organic textures. This shift reflects how homeowners are moving away from traditional styles in favor of more expressive, personalized details.

With endless inspiration just a click away, Schroder says it’s easier than ever for homeowners to make thoughtful updates that reflect their individual style. “The next hot thing that homeowners see value in is the small finishing touches,” she says.

    2. Statement Pieces

In addition to bold shapes and rich textures, there’s a growing resurgence of statement hardware with an artisan-crafted feel, says Steph Schlegelmilch, founder and creative director of Studio Seva. Today’s hardware market spans a wide spectrum—from oversized pulls and faceted crystal knobs to geometric stone designs, brass and leather-wrapped pieces, and nature-inspired styles shaped like shells, branches, and leaves.

    3. Warm and Cool Metals

Schroder also predicts that warm metals like aged brass and copper will continue to shine in the spotlight. She notes that cooler-toned finishes, such as chrome—especially when paired with today’s trending warm color palettes—can create a striking and balanced cabinet face.

Polished nickel remains a top choice among both homeowners and designers for its sparkling, jewelry-like appeal. Best of all, like chrome, this finish effortlessly bridges traditional and modern styles and complements a wide range of colors and tones—making it a safe, versatile pick for nearly any space.

Schroder adds, “The popularity of abnormal materials such as colorful powder-coated metal, alongside wood and stone, are also burning up, and we love it!” Don’t be afraid to explore beyond the usual suspects. You might just find a unique finish that adds more personality and character to your space than you ever expected.

    4. Bold Colors

If you’re ready to break free from traditional hardware designs, Kyle Kurtenbach, owner and founder of ROUS Hardware, encourages you to try a bolder, more colorful approach. With ROUS’s lineup full of cheery hues like olive green, snow white, royal purple, rose red, and sunflower yellow (plus a custom palette on the way), Kurtenbach offers a fresh take on how hardware can transform a space.

“The cabinet and door hardware product vertical historically has been dominated by what we call the ‘boring finishes,’ like brushed nickel, chrome, black, and polished brass,” he says. “Make your space stand out and search for pieces that are stylish and high-quality.”

    5. Living Finishes

Another trend to keep on your radar includes the rise of living finishes, such as unlacquered brass, copper, and bronze, says Liz Williams, founder of Liz Williams Interiors. This type of hardware is uncoated, so it will show wear over time. “Its materials evolve, developing a natural patina that gives each piece a unique, lived-in character,” Williams explains.

“Antique brass also embodies a sense of timelessness, fitting beautifully into both traditional and transitional designs. Its richness pairs well with wood tones, marble, and other classic materials, adding a vintage charm to a space,” she adds.

    6. More Tech-Forward Options

Schroder says that smart hardware is also on the rise—think motion-activated pulls, voice-controlled locks, and fingerprint-resistant finishes. “Why fumble with sticky hands when you can just tap a cabinet with your elbow and open it like magic,” she says. “The ‘no-hardware look’ is another trending style we’re loving in modern spaces right now.”

    Tips for Buying New Hardware

Designers agree—the best hardware will withstand the test of time and heavy traffic. Ahead, each shares their top tips to help you feel confident as you shop for your next hardware upgrade.

    Buy with Durability in Mind

Cullen advises selecting hardware with long-term appeal and durability. “Cabinet hardware faces daily wear and tear—from the oils on our hands to cooking residue—so it’s essential to choose ones that can stand up to these elements and are easy to clean. That’s how you ensure lasting beauty and functionality,” she adds.

    Choose Timeless Materials and Designs

Schroder encourages homeowners to prioritize solid, long-lasting materials like brass and stainless steel. But durability isn’t everything—style matters, too. “Look for classic silhouettes that won’t feel outdated in five years,” she advises.

Williams agrees, adding, “Avoid overly ornate or trendy hardware and choose options that balance practicality and subtle elegance.” She emphasizes the importance of consistency and usability: “Keep hardware cohesive and functional so it continues to look fresh and serves your home well for years to come.”

    Be Strategic with Bolder Choices

“If you’re feeling adventurous, a bold knob or pull swap is the easiest way to give your space a mini glow-up without a full reno,” says Schroder. Williams agrees but encourages a thoughtful approach. “If you want to try trendy hardware, slate it for a smaller space like a bar, powder room, or butler’s pantry where it can be easily swapped out later if your tastes change,” she suggests.

Schlegelmilch also weighs in, expressing her love for living finishes for exactly this reason. Whether you opt for something trendy or timeless, she notes that living finishes don’t suffer from the same wear as plated metals, which can tarnish, discolor, or fade over time. “Instead, their unparalleled natural patina allows any space to feel lived-in and special,” Schlegelmilch says.
