After a long, hard week, I always find myself wanting to declutter my space to unwind and reset my space. Before you raise your eyebrows, hear me out: Decluttering allows me to focus on one thing at a time without getting overwhelmed, and leaves my space feeling cleaner and tidier. I turn on my favorite music or show to play in the background as I get to work, and let myself get in the zone.
Below, I share all the decluttering tasks I love to do that are easy but effective.
Pick Up Everything Off the Floor
It’s easy to let things pile up on your floors whether it’s clothes, opened packages, or bags you have yet to put away. However, the longer you avoid putting everything away, the less space you have to freely move around.
I always try to throw away any old cardboard bags, plastic bags, and papers lying around, so I can create more breathing room in my bedroom.

Organize Clothes in Categories
I have a whole system when it comes to my clothes since different pieces are stored in specific ways or areas of my room. When it comes to sweaters, sweatshirts, and sweatpants, I fold them and put them up in my organizer above my clothing rack. For smaller items like t-shirts, tank tops, or shorts, I either place them in my drawers or hang them on the other side of my room.
Depending on how you like to put away your clothes, I recommend separating them so you can focus on each area at a time rather than going back and forth in your room—this will save you time and energy in the long run.
Skim Through Clutter Piles
It’s normal for most people to spend hours on their clutter piles to decide what to keep, toss, or donate. However, when it comes to small decluttering sessions like mine, I recommend skimming through to see which items really pop out to you.
This will help you streamline your space without weighing you down with the heavy decision of what to do with it. I usually end up tossing three to five products every time I do it and it eventually makes my longer decluttering sessions way easier in the future.
Prioritize Frequently Used Items
If you have a vanity full of products like I do, you may also be guilty of not being able to find your favorite items right away since they’re either pushed all the way back or hidden away.
To make my daily routine easier, I bring all of my favorites to the front and then reorganize the ones I barely touch to the back or onto my rolling cart to create more space.
Throw Out Broken or Missing Parts
You would be surprised by how many broken or missing parts I find whenever I do a decluttering session, Whether it be broken plastic hangers still taking up space in my closet or missing caps for my beauty products, I keep my garbage can nearby to toss them or relocate them to where they belong.
