Starbucks is known for keeping its seasonal menus fresh and exciting, and this summer is shaping up to be a sweet one. We got a quick peek at the upcoming menu additions, and it’s clear the coffee chain is focusing on bright, light drinks to beat the summer heat.
Two refreshing fan favorites are returning, while one popular summer drink remains notably absent (sorry, no S’mores Frappuccinos this year as far as we can tell). Starbucks also unveiled two brand new additions: a sweet strawberry treat and a nod to a popular vanilla-cinnamon drink. Here’s a closer look at what’s hitting menus starting in May.
Iced Horchata Oatmilk Shaken Espresso
This new Starbucks menu item is based on a beloved Hispanic beverage called horchata. The classic drink features lighter, summery notes like cinnamon, vanilla, and sugar over a base of rice or nuts.
This version includes a creamy oat milk base poured over espresso. The new iced coffee flavor joins Starbucks’s growing lineup of dairy-free options alongside their recently launched at-home oat milk creamers.
Strawberries & Cream Cake Pop
Strawberries and coffee might not initially seem like a match made in heaven—while you wouldn’t pour strawberries directly over your cup of joe, strawberry matcha is the newest big thing in the coffeehouse world, and it’s a worthwhile combination.
We think these new Strawberry & Cream Cake Pops would taste delicious alongside an Iced Strawberry Oat Matcha Latte. They’ll be available for a limited time with the Birthday Cake, Chocolate, and Cookies & Cream cake pop flavors. (Last year’s summer cake pop flavor was Orange Cream.)
Summer-Berry Lemonade Refresher
Starbucks is staying on trend with the return of lighter, berry-themed drinks, including two that debuted as part of their Summer Refresher menu last May. To make this popular drink, the standard Summer-Berry Refresher (with raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry flavors) is mixed with lemonade and shaken in ice.
That combination is added to Starbucks’s signature raspberry-flavored pearls that make this drink feel more like boba. It’s unclear if the original Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers Beverage will be back on the menu, too.
Summer Skies Drink
Finally, we have the return of Summer Skies. This drink is a fruity, non-dairy option that originally debuted last May. It includes raspberry-, blueberry-, and blackberry-flavored coconut milk, which is poured on top of those popular raspberry-flavored pearls. The result is a creamier version of the standard Summer Refresher.
Watch your local café, as these drinks start rolling out nationwide next month.
