Ford has recalled 24,655 Explorer SUVs from model year 2025 because a critical system can reset suddenly while driving. This can cause the vehicles to stall and prevent them from entering park mode.
The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “Affected vehicles may experience a reset of their Powertrain Control Module (PCM) while driving.” Resetting the PCM can cause “loss of motive power.”
It can also cause the transmission to attempt to shift into park while in motion. That might damage the parking pawl, leaving park mode unable to hold the car still.
Owners might see a malfunction light in their instrument panels as the problem develops, Ford says. Dealers will fix the issue with a software update.
