People in the US will now be able to pay for eBay purchases using Klarna, including using financing options. “Shoppers can pay for eligible eBay purchases in the U.S. using Klarna’s flexible payments options including Pay in 4, which allows customers to split their purchase into four interest-free payments as well as Financing, which offers flexible payment plans for larger purchases.”
In eBay’s announcement on Wednesday, it said Klarna – known for its Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) feature – had recently rolled out its “resell” feature to US shoppers who use eBay. “With just a few taps, users can list past Klarna purchases on eBay—complete with pre-filled descriptions and images—making it easier than ever to extend the life of their items.”
Klarna is already available in Europe, and the expansion to the US “reflects eBay’s continued investment in bringing more choice, flexibility, and control to buyers while enhancing affordability across key categories,” eBay said.
In a separate post on LinkedIn, eBay said shoppers liked the flexibility, affordability and control of being able to buy now and pay later (BNPL) “for items like a refurbished gaming system, hard-to-find car part, or vintage handbag.”
eBay launched its partnership with Klarna in the UK, Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain in December 2024. Categories popular with those using Klarna to pay on eBay include electronics, fashion, and collectibles. “eBay shoppers are splitting up payments to access higher-ticket items—like a pre-loved luxury watch—in a more affordable, manageable way,” it said.
Klarna said it has over 93 million global active users and processes 2.9 million transactions a day.
In its LinkedIn post, eBay said the average value of a purchase made using Klarna is three to four times higher than the average eBay transaction in those markets – particularly in categories like electronics, automotive parts and accessories, and lifestyle items such as musical instruments and sporting goods.
