Ford has reissued an old recall, asking owners of 4,625 Transit vans from model years 2022-2023 to bring them back in for a second attempt to repair faulty rearview cameras.
Ford recalled nearly 170,000 vehicles in 2023 because of several issues that could keep their rearview cameras from displaying an image. The company successfully repaired some with a new camera or a physical change to the wiring, and others with a software update.
Ford has since learned that the tool it used to update software could sometimes fail, but report a successful installation. Over at least a 3-year period, dealers returned thousands of vehicles to owners, believing problems had been corrected when they weren’t.
Ford can identify which specific vehicles had an upload failure and has developed a new process to verify successful installation. So it is repeating portions of many old recalls to install software updates a second time.
That’s what dealers will do to solve this problem.
