Mercedes-Benz has recalled just 14 E-Class sedans and wagons from model year 2024 because a wiring problem poses a fire risk.
All of the recalled models have a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Mercedes tells federal safety regulators that a wiring harness in the system “might not be secured correctly to the ground studs, which could result in an increase in electrical resistance.”
Electrical resistance generates heat, and Mercedes says it cannot rule out the risk of fire.
Mercedes says the problem affects such a small number of cars because the company reworked a production process and identified two employees who briefly used the wrong procedure during the changeover to new steps.
The company knows of no incidents in the U.S., but at least two reports in other countries.
Dealers will fix the issue by inspecting the connections and further securing them if necessary.
As with all recalls, the repair is free.
Many vehicles are recalled, sometimes more than once. Manufacturers try to reach every owner to warn them. However, some may fall through the system’s cracks and are left unknowingly driving recalled cars. Check our easy recall tool to determine if your car has any outstanding recalls.
