Buick and Nissan produce vehicles that often punch above their weight class, which is to say, they’re nicer than expected. Buick is often described as a “near-luxury” brand, while Nissan products use a lot of premium touches in some of its vehicles to make them look more upscale, especially in their upper trims.

The 2025 Buick Envision and 2025 Nissan Rogue are among the best examples of this “more for your money” approach.

The Envision offers a near-luxury experience at a price comparable to many well-equipped mainstream brands. Meanwhile, Nissan’s best-seller follows a similar plan. These two provide plenty of bang for the buck, so let’s check them out.

    2025 Buick Envision

    2025 Buick Envision parked.

The newly facelifted Buick Envision seats five passengers comfortably in a cabin filled with technology and a contemporary style. It’s built to deliver a comfortable ride with great technology, which aligns it with the rest of the Buick portfolio.

Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, the Envision’s engine puts out 228 horsepower, and AWD is standard. It comes with plenty of nice touches, such as wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a hands-free tailgate. A slew of advanced driver safety technology is available in the middle and top trim levels. The Envision is available in three trim levels — Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir.

    Buick Envision Highlights

Some luxury: Available as an option in the Avenir trim, massaging front seats knead their occupants into full-on luxury vehicle territory. These seats, covered in perforated leather, also have heating and ventilation.

Tech help: The standard Technology Package 1 includes a head-up display and a 9-speaker Bose premium audio system. We love to see these tech features come standard in every trim.

Elegant interior: The first thing you’ll notice in the Envision’s interior is a digital instrument cluster mounted flush with an expansive infotainment touchscreen. It stretches 30 inches diagonally and wouldn’t look out of place in a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Genesis product. Upper trims have niceties like perforated leather upholstery and a digital rearview camera. The Avenir has a massaging seat function for the driver.

    2025 Nissan Rogue

The brand’s best-selling compact SUV for years, the Nissan Rogue draws buyers because it’s fuel efficient, spacious enough for friends and family, and affordable. The Rogue saw a mid-generation refresh in 2024, and for 2025, it gains a more rugged Rock Creek variant with standard AWD. An upgraded ProPilot Assist 2.1 system is also included for 2025 SL and Platinum models.

The 1.5-liter 3-cylinder that’s standard provides fuel efficiency; however, it can be had with or without AWD. The Rogue offers buyers up-to-date technology, including an available 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, in a comfortable, appealing package.

Rogue comes in four trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum. Regardless of your pick, you get a great-looking exterior, a spacious cabin, and a capable powertrain. However, the SL and Platinum trims offer a premium feel on par with the Buick Envision.

    Nissan Rogue Highlights

Google built-in: Standard on the SL trim and Platinum this year is Google built-in. Using voice commands and a 12.3-inch HD color touchscreen, you can access Google Assistant, Google Maps, and more on Google Play.

Exterior makeover: The Rogue gets an updated look for its front and rear fascias, a new version of the Nissan V-motion grille, new inner taillights, and a new 18-inch alloy wheel design.

Gas sipper: Powered by a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder, it boasts an EPA-estimated 33 combined mpg, the best among non-hybrid SUVs. You also get to avoid some of the problems that come with hybrid ownership.

    Conclusion

The near-luxury Buick Envision offers a great ride and a comfortable, tech-heavy interior that gives buyers an experience approaching entry-level compact luxury SUVs. The Rogue is slightly larger inside but falls short under the hood compared to the Buick. Still, the roughly $7,000 starting price difference is tough to look past. If you want the nicer, more modern vehicle and have the cash, take the Buick Envision.
