Electric vehicle (EV) builder Polestar has recalled 27,816 Polestar 2 sedans from model years 2021 through 2025 because their backup cameras may not display an image. But owners won’t need to return their cars to Polestar to have them fixed. The company will instead push out an over-the-air software update that should correct the problem.
Polestar tells federal safety officials that a “synchronization error” between the camera and infotainment screen can keep the image from appearing. That causes the display to show a “camera is temporarily unavailable” message even though all the hardware required to display the image is working.
The company will release a software update to fix the issue, but has not set a download date.
By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
