How Many Amazon Fulfillment Centers Are in Your State?

Amazon tends to be tight-lipped when it comes to details about its business. But it also cares about its public image and its relationship with lawmakers and periodically touts its contribution to countries and local economies, including job creation.

On Friday, it published a post on the Amazon corporate blog titled, “How Amazon is investing in the US,” and boasted in the subtitle: “Amazon’s investments are bringing good jobs and new opportunities to communities across America.”

Those curious about Amazon’s impact on their state can click on their state name to read details about Amazon’s investments, from the number of full- and part-time jobs created to details about infrastructure, including the number of fulfillment and sortation centers in each.

Amazon also hired consulting firm Keystone Strategy to estimate investment and economic impact figures. For example, Amazon invested $23 billion in Massachusetts since 2010, including infrastructure and employee compensation, and added $21 billion to the Commonwealth’s state GDP as a result of its investments, according to its figures.

Amazon also published data for the US as a whole, estimating it had created more US jobs in the last decade than any other company, and contributed over $1 trillion to the US GDP since 2010. (Gross Domestic Product measures the value of goods and services produced in the United States. Compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, it is an indicator of the nation’s overall economic health.)

Among the interesting factoids about Massachusetts, where EcommerceBytes is based, were ones revealing Amazon’s logistics investments:

  • 8 Fulfillment and sortation centers
  • 17 Delivery stations
  • 32 Whole Foods Market locations
  • 2 Amazon Hub Locker+ locations
  • 1 Prime Now fulfillment centers

It also revealed it has two solar farms and 11 on-site solar locations in Massachusetts, for those interested in checking the data for their own state.

Amazon also publishes a list of Fulfillment Centers on Seller Central along with the codes with which sellers are familiar when sending inventory to its FBA fulfillment network, though the page doesn’t indicate when Amazon last updated the list.
