Mazda has recalled 12,244 MX-5 Miatas from model years 2024-2025 because a light may not always indicate that their traction and stability control systems are active.
The MX-5’s Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and traction control system (TCS) should kick in to aid steering when the car begins to slip. The DSC constantly measures yaw — twisting forces on the car’s vertical axis — to determine when to activate.
However, Mazda says the systems can activate without triggering a light to warn the driver. A Mazda spokesperson confirms to us that “the DSC system works just fine.” But the light on the dashboard may not always illuminate to show that it’s working.
Dealers will replace the DSC unit with “improved parts” to fix the issue.
Mazda has been holding some 2025 Miatas in port and not delivering them to owners over an unknown hardware issue. Mazda’s spokesperson confirmed to us that “all MX-5 models held at ports have been released, and deliveries have resumed.”
