Mazda has recalled 171,412 vehicles because their airbags may fail in a rare circumstance.

Affected models include some, but not all, examples of the:

    • 2024 Mazda CX-30
    • 2024-2025 Mazda3

Mazda tells federal safety officials that, if an owner leaves the ignition switch in the on position without starting the car until the battery is drained, the airbag sensors will experience a fault. If the battery is then recharged and the vehicle started, the airbags will not deploy in a crash.

Mazda is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem.

Dealers will fix the problem with a software update, and may replace the airbag sensors in some cases.

By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Automakers recall many cars, sometimes more than once. Manufacturers try to reach every owner to warn them. However, some may fall through the system’s cracks, leaving some of us unknowingly driving recalled cars. Check our easy recall tool to determine if your car has any outstanding recalls.
