AppDirect, a B2B subscription commerce platform, has acquired DNE Resources, an energy broker operating in Canada’s deregulated energy markets.
A CAD 100 million (USD$74 million) credit facility from La Caisse, a global investment group, supports the acquisition. The DNE Resources acquisition is part of AppDirect’s strategy to expand its service offerings into the energy sector.
Wayne Burke and Steve Shoiry founded DNE Resources in 2009. It manages over CAD 250 million (approximately USD 185 million) in energy expenditures. DNE specializes in helping clients navigate deregulated energy markets, where businesses can choose their energy suppliers to optimize costs and align with sustainability goals. The company works with industrial and commercial clients, offering services such as:
- Energy procurement
- Risk management
- Sustainability consulting
AppDirect acquires DNE Resources
As part of the deal, DNE Resources will integrate with AppDirect’s technology platform, including access to its Broker Online Exchange (BOX) My Service Cloud. This integration is expected to enhance DNE’s customer offerings by providing digital tools for energy management, real-time data analytics, and more scalable solutions to improve operational efficiency.
The acquisition follows AppDirect’s purchase of BOX, a retail energy network. It aims to strengthen AppDirect’s presence in the energy market across Canada and the U.S. By combining energy services with its existing portfolio of cloud, telecom, mobility, hardware, and AI solutions, AppDirect plans to create a unified procurement marketplace that can serve technology advisors and brokers.
The deal comes at a time when rising energy demands, fueled by growing AI consumption and other factors, are prompting businesses to seek more efficient energy solutions. Through this acquisition, AppDirect aims to provide its clients with cost-effective energy strategies. At the same time, it seeks to support a transition to more sustainable energy practices.
DNE Resources and BOX will continue to operate under their existing brands, ensuring a smooth transition for customers. This acquisition allows AppDirect to expand its offerings in the energy sector and strengthen its position in the broader market for digital applications.
