This New 65-Foot Sailing Yacht Combines High Design With High Performance

Grand Soleil just gave its 65-foot sailing yacht a sporty twist.

The Italian boat builder, one of three owned by Cantiere del Pardo, has unveiled a successor to the successful Grand Soleil 65. The new Grand Soleil 65 Plus Performance takes design cues from the GS 65 LC (Long Cruise) launched in 2023, but promises greater power, speed, and agility. The yacht debuted at the Palma International Boat Show in May, but this marks its official release.

With exteriors by Nauta Design and naval architecture by Matteo Polli, the newcomer is as elegant as the LC but cuts an even sleeker silhouette. The gently tapered coachroof gives the yacht a low profile that is quite different from that of the LC. It also features the same streamlined hull and V-shaped bow as the Grand Soleil Plus 72, meaning it offers a similar level of performance and handling but has a slightly smaller footprint. “The hull is designed to perform at its best in the entire range of displacement, from lightship in racing conditions up to full load in cruising mode,” Polli said in a statement.

As for the sail plan, the mast is stepped well aft to maximize the size of the foretriangle, and the sail area is carefully positioned to ensure aerodynamic efficiency. The rig is also designed to be reefed while preserving optimal balance between hull and appendages, meaning the yacht performs reliably in a wide range of conditions. The sailer is equipped with a self-tacking jib, too, enabling owners to take control in lieu of a crew.

The interior is finished to standards typically seen in the superyacht world.

Cantiere del Pardo

Like the entire Cantiere del Pardo fleet, the new 65 Performance is designed to have a low environmental impact and a high degree of recyclability. The teak comes from a sustainable supply chain, the glass is laminated for better insulation, the paints are water-based, and the solar panels generate clean, green energy.

That doesn’t mean the 65-footer is short on luxury. The interior is finished to standards typically seen in the superyacht world, according to the yard. The layout is similar to that of the LC, but the salon has been lowered to bring it closer to the level of the forward and aft cabins. This innovation improves flow throughout the living quarters, the yard says.

As the GS 65 Performance is part of Grand Soleil’s Plus Line, the yacht is fully customized to each client. Nauta will work with the owners from the earliest stages, helping them to decide on everything from materials to palettes.

Time to create your dream sailing yacht.
