There are some pretty obvious things you shouldn’t do while drinking whiskey because of how dangerous and/or difficult they would be: driving, performing surgery, flying a plane, and reading an Apple user agreement are a few that come to mind. Some games don’t mix with drinking, either: Jenga is at the top of that list as stacking bricks becomes almost impossible a few drams in. It seems that Japanese company Janga doesn’t agree with that sentiment, however, because it is selling a limited-edition Jenga set filled with Japanese whisky.
Janga’s reimagined Jenga set is comprised of 54 mini bottles rather than the regular wooden blocks, according to the website Sora News 2. Made of acrylic, the hollow pieces in the standard version can be filled with any alcohol you like. In addition, the company has dropped a special Zeus Janga Japanese Whisky 25 Years set.
Information is a bit limited, but the pieces in the Zeus set are filled with a 25-year-old malt whisky. The spirit’s country of origin is Japan, but no word on whether this is an actual Japanese whisky or if it was produced elsewhere, as is sometimes the case. We do know it clocks in at 43 percent ABV. We were not able to sample this whisky for obvious reasons, but the official tasting notes describe an aroma of “woods, reminiscent of noble oak and sandalwood,” followed by notes of vanilla and honey on the palate. “The flavor is profound yet delicate,” it says on the website, “and the complex, changing aftertaste lingers long and beautifully, like the final chapter of a piece of music, revealing a new facet with every sip.”
The Zeus set is housed in an acrylic case with an alligator leather handle and comes in a numbered box. Only 10 sets are available and will cost you 1.98 million yen (about $14,000) a pop. To score a set, you have to enter a lottery on the Janga website. (Be sure to check to see if shipping is available to wherever it is that you live.) You should act fast, too, because the lottery started last week and more than 200 entries were logged in the first three days. The lottery ends on July 19.
If Japanese whisky isn’t your thing, Janga is also releasing a few other sets spotlighting different categories of spirits, including Aphrodite Janga Scotch Whiskey Aged 12 Years, Demeter Janga Tequila Anejo, Hephaestus Janga Original Liqueur, and Artemis Janga Korean Soju. All are much less expensive than the Zeus.
Maybe booze and Jenga make a good pairing after all.
