- Lucid will roll out a hands-free highway driving system as a software update
- It will only work for those who bought the optional DreamDrive Pro upgrade
Electric vehicle (EV) builder Lucid has joined the ranks of automakers that let drivers take their hands off the steering wheel in certain conditions.
This week, the company announced a software update that adds a hands-free highway driving system to its Air sedan and Gravity SUV.
Lucid says the system “will be available as an over-the-air (OTA) update for Lucid Air owners, scheduled for July 30, and for Lucid Gravity owners later this year.”

It will only be offered to those with the optional DreamDrive Pro system, which has the sensors necessary to make it work. Lucid doesn’t explain the circumstances under which it works, but many similar systems engage only at highway speeds. Some, like Ford’s BlueCruise and GM’s Super Cruise, work only on certain pre-mapped roads.
Lucid says the system will change lanes if drivers prompt it with the turn signal.
