- The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek loses its weak base engine and sees just a small price hike
When KBB expert test driver Russ Heaps reviewed the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek, he didn’t find much to complain about. His sole major critique of the little off-road wagon-like SUV read, “bland base engine.”
Russ Heaps is a powerful man.
Subaru has killed the Crosstrek’s bland base engine for 2026. Every 2026 Crosstrek will come with the more powerful engine previously available only on the higher trims. Power jumps from 152 horsepower to 180 for the base model.
Impressively, the base model sees its price rise just $435 despite the additional power.
Other changes for the 2026 model year include a new hybrid option making 194 hp. A heated steering wheel now comes standard on Limited and Wilderness trim levels. The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek is expected to go on sale this fall.
