This Barely Driven 1993 Ford Muscle Truck Is Now up for Grabs

Here’s a chance for truck lovers to travel back in time.

A 1993 Ford F-150 Lightning SVT is currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer. Not only is it considered one of the great muscle trucks of the era, but it’s also barely been driven, with just 150 miles showing on the odometer.

In the early 1990s, Ford knew it couldn’t sit back and leave all the muscle truck fun to its fiercest rival, General Motors. The company released the first modern-day muscle truck, the 1990 Chevrolet 454 SS, in 1990, and followed it up with the smaller GMC Syclone the next year. In 1992, the blue oval countered with its first, which was based on the ever-popular F-150.

Ford, more than anyone, knows that if you put the F-150 name on a truck, it’s going to sell. That didn’t stop the company from going all-out for the high-performance model. Developed by the company’s Special Vehicle Team—hence the SVT in its name—the pickup is based on the ninth-generation F-Series and came with a naturally aspirated 5.8-liter Windsor V-8 mated to a four-speed automatic. The new mill was the same size as the V-8 found in the standard F-150 but came outfitted with a high-flow rate “GT40” intake and heads. These changes helped boost output to 240 hp and 340 ft lbs of torque, a significant increase over the 200 hp and 310 ft lbs of torque made by the standard F-150.

Other modifications included a more rigid chassis, with reinforcements at high-stress areas. It also featured a lower ride height and a retuned suspension with custom-calibrated shocks, along with front and rear roll bars.

The SVT Lightning up for auction is no. 1,649 of 5,276 produced during its initial model year. It’s finished in Bright Red with black trim, features “Lightning” graphics on the sides and tailgate, and rides on a set of 17-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels. The interior, meanwhile, is covered in Dark Charcoal cloth and has “Lightning” stitched into the headrests. The truck looks brand new in the pictures accompanying the auction listing, which is little surprise considering how little mileage it’s covered over the last 32 years.

If all this sounds intriguing, you have four days left to bid on the SVT Lightning. As of press time, bidding had reached $66,000. We’ve seen a barely driven GMC Typhoon, the SUV equivalent of the Syclone, sell for over $200,000 this year, so don’t be surprised if that number begins to climb in the days to come.
