eBay Offers One-on-One Training to Invited Sellers


eBay sellers are asking colleagues for advice after receiving invitations to participate in eBay’s “Pro Seller” due in part to the lack of information about the program. It appears the program is a new name for the eBay Growth Advisor program.

Sellers began asking about eBay Pro Seller as early as January and as recently as this month. On January 2, 2025, a seller asked on Reddit if anyone had heard of the program:

“I just got an invite to join their prosellers program, and I’m trying to find out what the program actually offers and if it’s worth even signing up for. In their little blurb about it, it looks like it’s just 10 weeks with a dedicated growth specialist, and a couple general tips and tricks? I can’t really find any info about the program online anyplace.”

In mid-January, sellers discussed the program in a private Facebook group. A seller asked if anyone else in the group had been invited to the program and said they believed it was a 10-week program with virtual meetings held with category specialists.

eBay previously invited sellers to participate in sessions with Growth Advisors. In January of 2023, we reported on the program and included the following job description:

“Growth Advisors provide outstanding, personalized partnerships with a strategic set of eBay sellers. The intent of the partnership is to optimize inventory and increase sales by utilizing eCommerce standard methodologies and internal promotional tools. Partnerships could include some of the world’s top brands. In addition to seller partnerships, the Growth Advisor would be responsible for managing relationships with eBay Category managers, sales leads, and other strategic internal customers.”

In January 2024, we wrote about the appearances of two of eBay’s growth advisors on the eBay for Business podcast (no longer in production) and what they had to say about the program.

Some sellers have said they believed the program was designed to encourage sellers to boost their ad budgets but conducted under the guise of helping sellers’ businesses (which may not be mutually exclusive, depending on your perspective).

This week, on July 22, a seller who received an invitation responded in a thread on the eBay discussion boards and said the first session was an overview of their eBay Store – categories, banner, storefront, newsletter options, etc. The seller said, “Helpful to get a second set of eyes to see what I’m doing well and could be doing better. I think the meatier topics will come up in the next couple of meetings regarding how to optimize listings for search.”

Since eBay hasn’t published anything about the Pro Seller program, sellers are still trying to figure out how eBay determines which sellers to invite. As we wrote last year, “From what we’ve read from sellers posting over the years, there’s no way to conjure the advisors – they reach out to sellers, though it’s not clear what criteria they use in choosing sellers to coach.”
