I’m used to seeing a handful of bugs indoors during muggy Virginia summers, and for the most part, I’m unfazed by them. However, I really can’t stand flying insects—especially when I have lots of fresh produce sitting around. They’re just annoying and somehow extra gross.
Thankfully, I’ve pretty much eliminated this concern with the help of the Zevo Flying Insect Trap. I’ve been using it in my kitchen for over a year and love its low-maintenance, chemical-free approach to pest control. Best of all, it’s just $20, and you can even receive cartridge refills without any extra hassle using Amazon’s “subscribe and save” feature.
I live in a 105-year-old row house, so I’m well aware that insects are bound to find their way inside, but I still like to mitigate their presence as much as possible. This Zevo trap specifically attracts flying insects with a blue UV light in front of the brand’s refillable sticky cartridge.
These cartridges are super easy to slide in and out of the plug-in device without having to touch the sticky portion (a major win in my book). While Zevo recommends swapping out the cartridge every two months, I’ve left one in for as long as six months.
In all honesty, I typically forget to swap out the cartridge—it’s that unintrusive. The sticky factor also doesn’t diminish over time, but you’ll want to change the sticky cartridge when it becomes crowded with bugs, especially if you get larger ones in your home.

This will vary between households, so I recommend checking on it each month to know what cadence works best for your home.
“It’s the ultimate set-it-and-forget-it product you could buy to mitigate the surge of bugs you see indoors during the summer.”
In case I wasn’t clear: There’s really zero mess involved with this fruit fly trap. You don’t even see the bugs from the front. It’s the ultimate set-it-and-forget-it product you could buy to mitigate the surge of bugs you see indoors during the summer.
As a pet mom, I also love knowing that my cat won’t encounter any chemicals when he jumps up on the counter to inspect the blue light.

The Zevo Flying Insect Trap is one of the most subtle (and affordable) investments I’ve made in my home’s maintenance, yet it’s had the biggest impact. I rarely see any kind of gnat, drain fly, or fruit fly in my kitchen.
You won’t regret shelling out the $20 for the starter kit, and if you’re on the hunt for more of my team’s favorite pest control products—ant killers, bug repellents, and moth repellents to name a few—make sure to keep scrolling.

Why Trust The Spruce?
Emma Ashe is an editor at The Spruce who primarily writes about bedding and home decor. Her experience living in older apartments (and being accustomed to sweltering Virginia summers that bring out all of the bugs) has also forced her to become well-versed in all kinds of pest control.
She’s tried plenty of DIY solutions, such as mixing apple cider vinegar and dish soap, but this fly trap is now her go-to and favorite solution for flying insects.
