Less than a year after buying a “beautiful” Greenwich Village apartment, the Million Dollar Listing New York alum revealed he had also purchased a 13th-century home in Tuscany, Italy. Fredrik showcased the property in a July 26 Instagram post, explaining what he and husband, Derek Kaplan, had up their sleeves.

“After years of dreaming and searching… we found it!” he wrote. “A 13th-century chapel ruin perched on a cliff with 40 acres of olive trees, overlooking the golden hills of Montepulciano in Italy. This is the first time I’m sharing this, as we closed on it last year and now deep in planning and permits — a sacred place that’s ours to protect… to love back to life.”

Fredrik said he and Derek would revive the chapel’s original “glory,” as they planned to update the walls in the “same beautiful pink color,” and restore the marble and travertine features throughout. Fredrik told viewers he and Derek were also on the hunt for statues and paintings that would enhance the property’s centuries-old charm.

Fredrik Eklund’s latest home renovation “will take many years” to complete

“It’s a big renovation project, but so beautiful,” he added.

Fredrik explained that the home would have two floors and include a country kitchen, a spacious living room, and a primary bedroom upstairs. The chapel sat on 40 acres of land, which Fredrik planned to fill with animals, olive trees, and maybe a vineyard.

“It will take many years as you can imagine, and we’ll do it slowly, with care and humility,” he said about the renovation. “I really want to enjoy the process… building a 13,000 sqft house. Every stone, every beam, every arch deserves respect. And surrounding it we’ll create our dream house.”

The Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles alum went on to post photos of the jaw-dropping outdoor space, complete with a stone water fountain, rows of Cypress trees, and views of the Tuscan hills. He also shared a peek at his meeting with his architects as they discussed floor plans.

Fredrik Eklund calls Tuscany “the most beautiful place in the world”

“Thank you to the incredible local community for welcoming us with such open arms,” Fredrik continued. “To the mayor, the architects, the lawyers, the farmers, the neighbors… I feel deeply grateful to one day call this place home. Will give updates on progress as we go along.”

Fredrik spoke about his love for Italy in a 2020 interview with the Wall Street Journal, confirming he and Derek had been searching for a Tuscan home for their family.

“To me, it is the most beautiful place in the world,” he told the outlet. “I feel like I need that beauty right now.”
