Key Points
- Add color by using small accents like vases and artwork that complement your room’s base tones.

- Intentional updates, like seasonal candles or cozy throws, offer an easy and budget-friendly way to refresh your space.
Since my job often requires me to interview and collaborate with interior designers, I’ve learned tons of tips and tricks on curating an intentional space, affordable ways to refresh a room, and so much more. My family, friends, and even friends of friends frequently come to me asking for advice, so I thought it would be helpful to share some common questions everyone asks.
Below, I highlight four burning questions that everyone’s curious about.
How Do You Bring in More Color Into Your Space Without Overdoing It?
Stephanie Perez
When it comes to introducing color into your space, especially if you’re working with a neutral foundation, don’t feel obligated to splash pops of color all over your walls, floors, or decor.
Choose a palette of two to three colors that complement your current room’s scheme and lean into smaller decor accents like mirrors, frames, artwork, vases, or rugs.
This way, you can experiment with different items without completely overdoing your room or spending too much (just in case you don’t like it). Over time, you can get a fun ottoman or couch in a bold color to create a focal point.

How Can I Find My Interior Design Style?
Calimia Home
If you’re not sure about what interior design style works for you, don’t pressure yourself to find out immediately. There are so many styles to learn and mix with that binding yourself to just one can feel restricting.
I recommend creating a mood board of all your favorite looks, whether it’s a patterned wallpaper or an eclectic couch. Have fun with it and let your imagination run free.
After, consider your actual layout and space, and determine what can be realistic versus what’s not. Then, you can see which styles can be mixed without overwhelming your space before shopping for the actual home accessories.
How Do I Decorate an Empty Corner?
Louis Duncan-He Designs
When it comes to filling an empty corner, it can be easy to throw anything into it—but this might make it look like a cluttered mess.
Think about your own personal hobbies or day-to-day tasks, and consider using the empty corner to serve your needs. Whether it be a cozy reading corner or a place where you can store all of your art supplies, be intentional with how you want to optimize the space.
Do I Need to Refresh My Space Seasonally?
Hannah Tyler Interior Design
There’s no right answer when it comes to refreshing your space seasonally, since that’s ultimately up to you and your budget.
However, if you’re looking for low-lift ways to refresh your space, consider adding a rug with a cute holiday motif or lighting a candle that has seasonal notes to create the impression that your space smells and feels new.
For example, when it comes to fall, you can add some more textures to your couch through a woven throw blanket or light a candle that has notes of pumpkin, clove, and cinnamon.
