Pilar Jhena “PJ” McKinley kicked off the academic year with a bang.
On Friday, August 15, The Real Housewives of Atlanta daughter said goodbye to summer vacation and hello to the first grade. And you best believe her mom, Porsha Williams, pulled out all the stops for the milestone.

While many parents mark the first day of school by snapping a few morning photos or perhaps making a special lunch, Porsha rang in the day with an over-the-top celebration fit for a princess. She shared the surprise in an Instagram carousel that showed little PJ posing before a colorful balloon arch outside the family’s front door. The structure was adorned with giant school-themed cutouts, including a pair of scissors, an eaten apple, the ABCs, pencils, and a ruler.
“PILAR’S 1st Day of school !!” the caption read, followed by the hashtags “MyVillage” and “PJDday.” “My big girls is in the First Grade. Of course we had to celebrate!”

The subsequent slides showed that the decor continued into the driveway, where another balloon structure cascaded down a school-themed backdrop emblazoned with PJ’s name. The 6-year-old girl was all smiles as she posed with a bouquet and a “get to know me board” that had fun details about her likes and personality. A quick zoom-in revealed that PJ’s favorite food was “Hershey’s,” her favorite activity was “skating,” and her dream job was a “police officer.”

The post also showed Porsha and her ex-fiancé, Dennis McKinley, standing beneath the arch with their daughter, proving their coparenting relationship was still going strong. Even the ex-couple’s moms came together for PJ’s big send-off.

Porsha and Dennis welcomed PJ in March 2019, less than a year before calling off their engagement. Although the parents have had their fair share of ups and downs over the years, they’ve maintained a pretty solid coparenting relationship. Porsha addressed the dynamic during her March 9 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, insisting she and Dennis were on “good” terms… for now.

“You know, it’s always good when I’m single,” she said. “Now, we gonna see when I get somebody, but it’s good.”
The answer led to a follow-up question: Would Porsha consider rekindling her romance with Dennis?
“No, no, no,” she told host Andy Cohen. “I’ve tried, I’ve thought about it, I’ve prayed about it, but it’s just not in the stars for us.”
