For under a million dollars, one can find all sorts of housing configurations: park- and subway-adjacent studios, one-bedrooms hidden in carriage houses or former shoe factories, and even the occasional true two-bedroom. We’re combing the market for particularly spacious, nicely renovated, or otherwise worth-a-look apartments at various six-digit price points.

The end of the summer is typically not a great time for new apartments coming to market. But we managed to find a lot of one-bedrooms this week for under $700,000. They include a Tudor City corner one-bedroom with East River views framed by casement windows and a Hudson Heights one-bedroom a few blocks south of Fort Tryon Park.

    320 E. 42nd Street, Apt. 1201

The bedroom in the Murray Hill apartment, as shown in listing photos, has windows to the north and east. The eastern window has a windowseat and a view of the East River.

This bright corner apartment in Tudor City, on a high floor of a 1929 co-op between First and Second, has views to the north and east, including of the East River, from its many casement windows. Adding to its airy quality, a glass wall divides the bedroom and living room, which is also open to the eat-in kitchen. A recent kitchen renovation includes a full-size Wolf induction oven, a full-size Sub-Zero refrigerator, and a Miele dishwasher. The bathroom has also been updated with new tiling and a soaking tub, and the apartment has a high-end HVAC system. Woodstock Tower has 24/7 building staff and monthly fees of $1,685 per month; that includes heat, hot water, and electricity (the fitness center and storage space downstairs are extra). It’s also open to pets, pied-à-terres, and co-purchases with parents. With two small neighborhood parks nearby and a private courtyard, there’s plenty of green space for humans and their pets, and the apartment is located a little under a half-mile from Grand Central and about three-quarters of a mile from Bryant Park. Robert Moses Playground and St. Vartan Park, smaller neighborhood hangouts, are less than ten minutes away.

    66 Overlook Terrace, Apt. 6P

Located on the sixth floor, this Hudson Heights one-bedroom, as shown in listing photos, has open sky views.

On the sixth floor of a 1959 brick building located a few blocks south of Fort Tryon Park, this one-bedroom co-op is large — over 800 square feet — with a nearly 20-foot-long living room, a big bedroom, and a spacious foyer that the current owner has set up as a dining area. The apartment has been recently renovated, with touches that are fun but not too over-the-top: a pale pink-patterned wallpaper on one wall of the bedroom, a galley kitchen with a floor design of beige arcs on a white background. There are also Bosch appliances, a gently refreshed bathroom that preserves the historic tile and fixtures, and gleaming hardwood floors throughout. The building has a monthly maintenance of $1,022, which covers a fitness center, a central laundry room, bike storage, private storage, a private outdoor playground, and a part-time doorman.

    201 E. 21st Street, Apt. 10H

This Gramercy Park co-op, as shown in listing photos, has a retro feel, with a partial glass-brick wall and red-and-white color scheme in several rooms.

The large living room and bedroom in this apartment, on the backside of the building, both face east, providing open sky views from the tenth floor. The kitchen has a kicky red-and-white palette, with red pulls on all the drawers and cabinets, and has been recently renovated. The whole apartment has something of a retro vibe, with a partial glass-brick wall dividing the foyer, also used as a dining area here, and the living room. The only downside is that the kitchen and bath lack windows. The postwar building has a reasonable monthly maintenance of $1,162 and a full-time doorman, a laundry room, bike storage, and a parking garage with direct access to the building. It’s only about a block to Gramercy Park, though the listing doesn’t mention a key. Union Square and Madison Square Parks are both about a half-mile away. Both have numerous subway stations nearby, and there’s a Whole Foods on Union Square East.

    72-15 37th Avenue, Apt. 4

The bedroom, as shown in listing photos, has high ceilings and hardware floors, several of the prewar details in the apartment.

The spacious, sunken living room is one of the many lovely prewar touches in this one-bedroom co-op, which include parquet floors, high ceilings, and original moldings. The galley kitchen is windowed and well sized, and there’s also a window in the bathroom. A nook off the foyer provides a good spot for a dining table, and the bedroom is large and bright, with light from two exposures and open views. In an elevator building just over a block from multiple train lines, including the E, F, M, R, and 7, essentially the central hub of Jackson Heights. It’s about two blocks from 34th Avenue’s Paseo Park, which stretches for 26 blocks from 69th Street to Junction Boulevard. The monthly fee is a reasonable $811 per month.
