If the Vogue office is anything to go by, short hair will continue to sweep the masses this fall. From colleagues to celebrities we wish were colleagues (we’re looking at you, Sofia Richie and Keke Palmer), the end of summer signals an end to the old and ushering in of the new—and, from pixie cuts to cheekbone-grazing bobs—there’s been a lot of new.
Now, there’s a trending cut that blends the best of both short and long hair: the modern lob. Unlike the version Victoria Beckham popularized in the early aughts, the 2025 lob is not razor sharp, nor does it have an asymmetrical angle.
This year, it’s more about slightly fluffy, hairspray-free hair, with easy movement and a slight bend at the ends. More boho than bombshell, the modern lob was seen at Celine’s spring/summer 2025 presentation, as well as on Gracie Abrams, Julianne Moore, Gigi Hadid, and more.

Round faces
Cut a long bob that’s ever so slightly longer in the front. This helps to draw the eye down and create the appearance of length.
Square faces
A softly-waved long bob helps to soften sharp angles and flatter square faces.
Oval faces
Subtle layers at the bottom of your long bob will add extra movement and dimension to your face.
Heart-shaped or inverted triangle faces
Opt for a long bob that’s heavier at the ends to help balance out proportions.
