Home trends have been understated for far too long—from stark whites to Millennial greys, it feels like spaces have been missing individuality and warm comfort for too many years. For 2026, paint brand Glidden is changing that pace.
Glidden has chosen Warm Mahogany for their 2026 Color of the Year: a rich, grounded, and timeless burnt red that only takes center stage when you want it to.
Glidden paint color expert, Ashley McCollum, said in a press release that Warm Mahogany is “bold enough to draw immediate attention and reserved enough to make a timeless statement.”
We spoke with McCollum to find out how to make this year’s color pick functional and fashionable.
New Adventures and Wellness
Glidden
On the whole, we’re seeing a rise of intentional togetherness, whether it be dinner parties, group journaling, or just getting together to do nothing among good company.
“It’s just really that bonding experience that’s shaping present day wellness,” McCollum tells The Spruce, and that’s exactly what Warm Mahogany inspires.
Whether drenching a dining room or accenting a TV room, this color invites people to slow down, sit, and envelop themselves in the now. Forget the clinical whites of minimalism, and allow this shade to relax your mind and sink into the moment.
“That slow down and focusing on quality lends itself to tradition, and we are bringing it back in a really personalized way that you can relate a little bit more to,” McCollum says.

Personalized Tradition
“It is a very classic and timeless type of color; too classic to go out of style,” McCollum tells The Spruce.
Burnt oranges and reds harken back to the ‘70s, but this shade brings in a more modern feel. It combines flawlessly with matte black, brass, gold, and copper accents that fold in contemporary accents.
Its most poignant example of versatility, however, is that it works flawlessly both inside and outside the home. Add it to a kids’ playroom, or cover your front door in it; it looks just as natural in a kitchen as it does on shutters.
Bringing It Home
Glidden
Whether your home is modern, farmhouse, or French cottage, there’s certainly a comfortable place for Warm Mahogany somewhere.
McCollum says you don’t have to redesign your home to add this shade; in fact, it might be the thing that makes a space feel harmonious.
“It can be a tough conversation to move into warms [from cool tones] if you’re concerned about having to redo your whole space, but you don’t necessarily have to. If you’re using a color on your wall, you should repeat it in some way, whether it be pillows on a couch, blankets, or curtains,” she advises.
Adding those metal finishes, or even other wood tones, can also help boost the harmony this the color exudes. And you can get it in sheen to really make your space pop.
But if you do want a whole new space, Warm Mahogany is the perfect shade for a full room drench, accent wall, or ceiling for a more rustic feel.
Glidden Paint is available at Home Depot, Walmart, and independent retailers.
