Tokio Marine takes South African Government to court


In July, Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire Insurance, the Japanese group that insured Toyota South Africa Motors, lodged a claim of 6.5 billion rand, about $368 million, against the eThekwini Municipality, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport and Transnet, the state-owned logistics company. The automaker’s sprawling Durban plant was inundated, forcing a three-month shutdown and the scrapping of roughly 4,000 vehicles.
