    Key Points

    • Use bins in drawers and store bulk items outside the bathroom to reduce clutter.
    • Rinse shower surfaces with a handheld head and limit products to prevent buildup.
    • Keep wipes handy, stash extra trash bags in the bin, and use a lidded trash can.

If you’re frustrated with how quickly your bathroom becomes dirty or disorganized, you may just need to evaluate what you are and aren’t keeping in the space, pro cleaners and organizers explain.

Here, three experts share their tried and true hacks for keeping a bathroom clean for days on end, many of which involve being more mindful with regard to storage. You’ll wonder why you haven’t implemented some of these techniques sooner!

    Use Bins Inside of Drawers

While bathroom drawers are great for concealing products and keeping them off your countertop, you should take drawer organization a step further by placing bins inside of them, offers Blake Jones, the founder of The Organizing Boss.

“This keeps your categories from mixing together, but more importantly, it keeps things from spilling into your drawer and makes any required cleanup super simple,” he says.

You will no longer need to worry about loose lotions or powders rolling around your drawer and leaking or making messes.

    Stash Overstock Products Elsewhere

If space in your home allows, make an effort to keep your overstock products like unopened bottles of your favorite shampoo and lotion, extra makeup, toilet paper, and the like, in an area that is not your bathroom, Jones instructs. He recommends tucking all of these items into a linen closet in your bathroom hallway, if possible.

“It keeps items nearby but gives you space in your drawers and cabinets for what you use on a regular basis,” Jones says. “This helps keep the space clean and clutter-free.”

Invest in a Handheld Shower Head

Adding a handheld shower head to your bathroom can make regular cleaning a breeze, explains Lexy Ford, the founder of Passion Organizing. After you have showered, keep the head on and use it to rinse off shower walls, tiles, and glass doors using hot water, Ford advises.

“This helps wash away soap scum, shampoo residue, and body oils, keeping surfaces sparkling and reducing buildup,” she says.

Don’t Store Too Much in the Shower

Speaking of the shower, make a point to not keep too many different products in there, urges Scott Schrader, a cleaning expert at CottageCare.

“Most soaps collect grime, and with too many bottles it’s hard to scrub,” he says.

You’re better off keeping extra, lesser-used products in a caddy and only housing day-to-day essentials in the shower. Not only will doing so create more room inside the shower, Schrader explains, but it will also prevent mildew from growing quickly.

    Keep Wipes Accessible

Keeping paper towels or cleaning wipes nearby in the bathroom will make quickly touching up your bathroom feel like second nature. Ford recommends using a paper towel daily to wipe down counters, faucets, and sink basins. This way, you’ll be getting rid of everyday debris as it appears.

Make Emptying Your Trash Can a Breeze

You should already be making a habit of emptying your bathroom trash can on the regular, but take things a step further and make the process a bit more seamless by storing extra trash bags at the bottom of the bin, Ford advises.

“This makes it much easier to change bags quickly when they’re full and keeps your trash can and bathroom fresh,” she says.

Speaking of bathroom trash cans, make sure to purchase one with a lid if you haven’t already. No one wants to stare into an open trash can while getting ready for the day. Plus, if your bin doesn’t have a lid, it’s all too easy for products to roll off your vanity and fall into the trash, particularly if your bathroom is on the more cramped side.
