IKEA is turning 40 in the States, and the beloved Swedish retailer is celebrating the milestone the best way it knows how: with affordable design, a whole lot of meatballs, and nearly a year of deals and events designed to thank its customers.

Since opening its first U.S. store in 1985, IKEA has become a household name for flat-pack furniture, clever storage hacks, and wallet-friendly home decor. To mark this occasion, the company is rolling out a nationwide customer appreciation campaign that stretches from September 24 through June 29. You have plenty of time to take advantage of weekly promotions, exclusive collections, and special in-store celebrations—here’s how to get the most out of them.

    Daily Gift Card Sweepstakes

Kicking off the festivities is a generous giveaway program. From September 3 to 23, IKEA Family and IKEA Business Network members can enter daily drawings to win gift cards worth up to $500. Each store will hold three drawings per day, giving loyal customers a chance to splurge on everything from bookcases to cozy textiles.

    A Meatball Lover’s Dream

No IKEA celebration would be complete without a nod to its famous restaurant menu. The anniversary campaign includes two tasty offers that honor the brand’s food history.

From September 3 through 23, customers can enjoy 40% off meatball entrees and HUVUDROLL (M)eatballs. Then, starting September 24 and running through October 28, IKEA will serve up a throwback deal: a 1985-style meatball plate for just $3. It’s a delicious way to celebrate the dish that has fueled countless shopping trips over the decades.

    40 Weeks of Deals

The main event officially launches September 24, when IKEA begins rolling out new weekly promotions available in-store and online. Each week will spotlight different product categories, ranging from furniture and kitchen essentials to seasonal decor and organizational must-haves. Shoppers can expect savings on iconic bestsellers and surprises on newer collections.

    In-Store Celebrations

Mark your calendars for September 27, when IKEA stores nationwide will host special anniversary events. You can expect food tastings, product demonstrations, workshops and even a complimentary breakfast plate for IKEA Family members. It’s designed to serve as both a “thank you” to loyal shoppers and an introduction for newcomers who may not yet be familiar with everything the stores have to offer.

    Limited-Edition Collections

For fans who love to show off their IKEA pride, the retailer is also launching a new capsule collection during its anniversary campaign. The in-store-only AURTIENDE line will feature limited-edition apparel and accessories designed for IKEA enthusiasts. Think: bold logos, playful designs and items tailor-made for collectors (or anyone who just really loves the brand).

    IKEA Gives Back

The celebration isn’t just about discounts and nostalgia—it’s also about community. Through September 27, IKEA will donate 40% of sales from its NYTILLVERKAD collection to Family Promise, Inc., a nonprofit that supports families experiencing houselessness. The initiative ties back to the brand’s long-standing commitment to “creating a better everyday life for the many people,” a vision that has guided IKEA since its earliest days.

    Four Decades and Counting

In the 40 years since it entered the U.S. market, IKEA has grown to 51 retail locations nationwide and more than 375 stores globally. Along the way, the brand has become synonymous with stylish yet affordable home furnishings and the occasional DIY challenge (Allen wrench included).

But as Jordi Esquinas Gimenez, chief commercial officer of IKEA U.S. noted, the brand’s focus hasn’t wavered: making high-quality design accessible for as many people as possible.

“This campaign is our way of celebrating our customers—thanking them for 40 years of trust and looking ahead to what we can build together in the future,” Gimenez stated in the anniversary announcement.
