A good cleaning routine should keep your house in smooth working order and eliminate regular build-up of dirt, grease, and grime. The basics, like decluttering, wiping counters, scrubbing toilets, and giving the floors a sweep and mop, are usually sufficient for a clean-enough house. However, some tasks don’t require frequent attention, making them easy to forget. One such chore? Wiping down the walls and baseboards.

I used to dread this task. Every couple of months, or when I noticed dirt or cobweb buildup, I’d pull out a spray bottle with a gentle cleaner and grab some rags and towels for an hours-long cleaning session. The time and effort drove me nuts, but there was no denying it—freshly cleaned walls and baseboards make a home sparkle. Since then, I’ve developed a new strategy that cut my cleaning time by more than half: using the O’Cedar Easy Wring Sping Mop.

Since I painted my house with semi-gloss and satin sheen paints, my walls are easily cleanable, so I use the same all-purpose cleaning solution for everything from walls to floors. However, if your house is painted in a matte or flat paint sheen, skip the cleaner and test a small patch with plain water only to ensure it doesn’t damage the finish. 

To clean my painted walls, I start by running a broom over them to knock down any large bits of dust or cob webs. Then I dampen the mop head via the bucket system and work from the top of the wall down to my baseboards, rinsing the mop in the bucket as needed. When I’m done, I empty the bucket, add fresh cleaning solution, and tackle my floors. It’s really that easy.

Although I sometimes have a hard time adjusting the telescopic handle to the length I’d like, the O’Cedar spin mop has been a welcome addition to my house-cleaning routine.
