The Corvette C8.R-005 is one of just six of its kind built, and has competed at Le Mans and Daytona. Now you can own one for yourself, either for historic racing, speed runs at your nearest track, or—hopefully not—the ultimate eye-candy in your garage.
The Corvette C8.R-005—full name Corvette C8.R-005 by Pratt Miller—is on sale at Hemmings, painted in a yellow livery with some sponsor decals and priced at $1.5 million. The race car has a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V-8 under the hood, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The engine makes 500 peak horsepower. The car itself comes in at a light 2,745 pounds, including air-conditioning, and is homologated for race use, with a safety cage. The interior, with its Bosch electronics, is just as racy.
The car is based on the C8 Corvette, the first mid-engine Corvette, and the latest in the line of racing Corvettes from Pratt Miller; those iterations started with the Corvette C5-R, which raced in 1999 at Daytona. Hemmings notes that purpose-built race cars like the Corvette C8.R-005 have advantages over factory-built cars, namely that they don’t have to deal with customers and regulations to make the car street legal.

“Unfettered by government regulations and a ride height dictated by consumer needs, Corvette Racing was able to provide the C8.R with significant aerodynamic improvements throughout the car, vastly improving downforce in cornering,” Hemmings says in its listing. “Wider tires, front and rear, also deliver increased roadholding.”
The C8.R won 22 times in various racing events, including events at Daytona and Le Mans. The C8.R-005 will also likely be one of the last of its kind ever built, since new racing regulations have come into force since its creation.
Hemmings has the price set at $1.5 million, or best offer. It also comes with “full Pratt Miller support,” meaning, if anything were to break or if you have any questions, the company would be there to help. The intention, clearly, is for the buyer to take the Corvette C8.R-005 racing again, as it rightly it deserves.
