Mercado Libre is introducing humanoid robots into its warehouse network under a new commercial agreement with Agility Robotics.
The partnership will deploy Agility’s Digit robots inside Mercado Libre’s fulfillment center in San Antonio, Texas, where the robots will handle repetitive and physically strenuous tasks such as moving totes and transporting materials. The companies said they will evaluate broader use cases with an eye toward future expansion into facilities across Latin America.
Mercado Libre is Latin America’s largest ecommerce and fintech company. Founded in 1999, Mercado Libre operates in 18 countries and runs one of the largest fulfillment networks in the Americas. The company has expanded its investments in automation as order volumes and delivery expectations continue to rise across the region.
How Mercado Libre will use Agility Robotics technology
Agustín Costa, Mercado Libre’s senior vice president of shipping, said the initiative is part of the company’s effort to use new technology to support safety and efficiency inside its logistics operations.
“We are constantly exploring how emerging technologies can elevate our operations and improve the experience for our employees and millions of users,” Costa said in a statement.
Agility Robotics has designed Digit a bipedal robot roughly human height. It created Digit to move through standard warehouse aisles without requiring major facility changes. Agility Robotics says Digit has already completed more than 100,000 tote-moving tasks in active commerce operations. That positions it as one of the first humanoids performing commercial work on warehouse floors.
Mercado Libre and Agility both framed the move as a response to persistent labor challenges in logistics, including high turnover in roles that are physically demanding or difficult to staff. The companies said automation could help improve ergonomics while shifting workers toward more skilled tasks.
Daniel Diez, Agility Robotics’ chief business officer, said the agreement reflects growing confidence in autonomous humanoid systems.
“We are incredibly proud to be partnering with Mercado Libre to support their workforce and operations through the deployment of Agility’s humanoid robot Digit,” he said.
Mercado Libre joins a group of companies piloting Digit in industrial environments, including logistics provider GXO, motion-technology manufacturer Schaeffler and Amazon.
