We’re dusting off our hosting notes because winter supper clubs are officially back. According to Etsy’s 2025 Holiday Trend Guide, Etsy users are ready to entertain with a supper club aesthetic reminiscent of cozy gatherings from past decades.
“As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, the supper club trend has evolved from summer cocktails into cozy gatherings to look forward to on dreary nights,” says Etsy trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson. “It’s an excuse to bring your loved ones together for an elevated dining experience, whether celebrating a milestone or just enjoying a random weeknight.”
What’s Driving the Winter Supper Club Trend
Before we learn how to execute this cozy winter entertaining trend, let’s first dive into what factors are influencing its rise in popularity.
Dinnerware
“Supper clubbers are all about dinnerware that adds flair and personality to the table, from unique glassware (glassware set searches were up 12x on Etsy), to statement silverware and custom cocktail napkins (a top gift this year),” says Johnson. “They’re leaning into pieces that add to the fun of the night, breaking away from cookie-cutter designs.”
Tablescapes
Tablescapes are most recently leaning into a maximalist aesthetic. Look for details that feel at once polished and playful, with whimsical details like food-inspired candles and bow-shaped cocktail clips. Classics like elegant floral centerpieces and linen table runners are perennial favorites that show no sign of letting up.
Menus
Menus aren’t exclusive to eating out. “To take their supper club-inspired dinner parties to the next level, hosts are creating custom menus that bring the meal to life,” says Johnson. “They’re an easy way to curate the vibe of the night and show the intention behind each course, from seasonal ingredients to perfectly-paired cocktails.”
Extra-Special Details
Beyond the menus, serving pieces, and tablescapes, a renewed interest in creating a special event that stays with guests long after the final course has been served continues to drive supper club interest. “The supper club trend isn’t just about the meal; it’s the overall vibe, from little touches like custom name cards at each person’s seat, to playful details that make the table feel curated and personal,” explains Johnson.
4 Steps to Hosting a Winter Supper Club
Remembering to have fun at your own party might be easier said than done. Still, Trinette Faint, founder and owner of Chez Faint, a dinner party and wellness retreat company that hosts supper clubs in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, France, and Italy, says there’s a remedy for that. “Preplanning is your best defense against anything that could go wrong and prevent you from enjoying yourself.” Here, she shares how to pull off your own winter supper club—from start to follow-up.
1. Determine a Theme
Faint suggests wintry themes like après-ski, the North Pole, or even a “summer outing” to lend an escape from the coldest days of the season. While the food should follow the theme (creativity gets bonus points), don’t neglect the drink menu—consider creating a signature cocktail or mocktail.
2. Set the Guest List
Holding the title of supper club creator means the guest list is entirely in your hands—an awesome responsibility, to be sure. While you want to keep the number manageable, you also want to have enough people to fill out the table and round out the conversation—Faint recommends a list of 12 guests. For those with smaller homes, only enough dinnerware to serve eight, or simply a tighter-knit friend circle, don’t hesitate to whittle that number down to one that suits your circumstances.
3. Send Invites
To give everyone plenty of time to add the date to their calendars, plan to send your invites a month in advance. It can be as straightforward as a casual text explaining the idea and gauging interest before following up with an electronic invite or a snail-mail invite.
4. Gather Details from Attendees
Once your guests have confirmed, Faint suggests asking about food allergies and requesting each guest’s five favorite songs. The latter will become the easiest playlist you’ve ever created. “It makes you a thoughtful host and will make your guests feel more comfortable when they arrive and hear their favorite tunes,” Faint says. “And it will, no doubt, inspire a bit of impromptu dancing!”
Tips for a Smooth Supper Club
- Always give new recipes a test run. Test recipes ideally at least a week before the event, so you have time for a contingency plan if needed.
- Decide whether to delegate. It’s okay to assign specific menu categories to guests or to handle the entire meal yourself.
- Be prepared. After guests arrive, try to be as hands-off as possible with the rest of the dinner prep so you can socialize and enjoy the meal, too.
- Create a winter shoe station. Have a designated space for guests to wipe snow and ice off their shoes—but let them keep them on. “More than likely, both men and women have spent forever deciding what to wear, including shoes, and you run the risk of ruining their look if you ask them to remove their shoes before entering,” says Faint.
- Put guests at ease with an ice breaker. Create a list of fun topics, number them, and place them in a fishbowl. Assign half of your guests a number, have the other attendees pick a topic from the bowl, then chat with the person with the corresponding number about the subject.
- Reach out the next day. Plan to follow up 24 hours after the dinner, thanking guests for coming. If one of the guests volunteered to host the next round, this is a great time to introduce the next host or share that the details on round two will be coming soon.
