Sellers are buzzing about an eBay-branded blanket some received as a holiday gift. “Thank you so much for the thoughtful holiday gift! I was so surprised and delighted to receive the cozy eBay blanket. It was very kind of you to think of me,” a seller wrote on the eBay discussion boards on Thursday.
The post, complete with a picture of the blanket, generated questions from sellers who didn’t receive a gift from eBay, as well as posts from other sellers who did received a blanket. Others recalled other gifts eBay sent to sellers over the years. Some remembered a seed-kit eBay sent in December 2022. One seller wrote in part, “I got a blankie that included a card extolling my dedication to eBay’s “seller community.””
Another said it was related to having attended an eBay event; “The card in my blanket was also thanking me for attending eBay open . If you attend and fill out the surveys at the end, they will send you eBay gifts after and also at other times of the year like Christmas.”
One seller was annoyed, but not because they didn’t get the gift, but because of eBay spending money on gifts at a time of high selling fees: “Anyone that gets a gift from eBay is clearly doing a good job. Totally deserved. However, the fact they are spending money on stuff like this when our fees are skyrocketing kind of annoys me. I’ve been on here selling since 1998 with 100 percent positive feedback (not this account). You’d think us old schooler’s could catch a break since we have a long history here.”
eBay sellers also discussed the gift on Reddit and on Facebook.
The blanket was generally appreciated by sellers, but it appeared some of those who did not receive a gift were left a bit disappointed.
