Amazon began displaying inaccurate sales data to sellers on Tuesday due to a glitch – some said the Amazon reports overstated their sales by double the amount in some cases. “I hope these numbers are correct and the sales start to match them soon,” one seller wrote.
Amazon acknowledged the problem in a discussion thread about the issue, where it wrote the following on Wednesday afternoon:
“Business Reports is experiencing some data discrepancies. We apologize for the inconvenience. Our teams are troubleshooting this and we expect this to be resolved within 24 hours.”
Sellers were struggling with the ongoing issue but also worried Amazon would overreport their earnings to the IRS as a result of the glitch. “It’s showing double or triple than the actual sales. I’m concerned that it’s going to affect the 1099-K reporting if it’s not corrected.”
Sellers may wish to document the incident and put it in their 2025 Tax Year folder so they can refer to it when reconciling their IRS Form 1099K when filing taxes next year.
Late on Wednesday, an Amazon moderator updated one thread, writing, “Sellers in related forums threads report that they are no longer seeing the discrepancy. Please let me know if you see any lingering issues, but the problem appears to be fixed.”
