Ford has issued a second recall for an old issue, this time affecting just nine owners. It’s part of a new pattern for the automaker, which has recently learned that it may need to repeat dozens of old recalls. Some owners were told dealers had fixed their vehicles when, in fact, the repair was never applied.
This time, Ford has recalled nine 2023 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks because their front windows might not reverse direction if they encounter an obstacle while closing. That could lead to pinched fingers.
The solution is a software update. However, Ford recently learned that the system dealers use to upload software updates sometimes fails, but it reports success. That leads to both dealers and owners believing a problem has been fixed when, in fact, it hasn’t.
Ford can identify the specific cars that need a second upload and has developed a new process to prevent the mistake from happening again.
