An ultra-modern lakefront estate in Connecticut‘s historic and famously scenic Litchfield County has just hit the market for $19.9 million.

The five-bedroom, eight-bath spread, a modern take on Tuscan style, was built in 2003 by the architect Steven F. Haas, with landscaping by garden and event designer Renny Reynolds. Long the home of Dr. Pamela Cantor and the late Richard A. Cantor, a former vice chairman at the investment firm Neuberger Berman, the home sits on a picturesque hillside in the rural town of Washington, with expansive views of pristine Lake Waramaug. Peter Klemm at Klemm Real Estate holds the listing.

The living room sports floor-to-ceiling mahogany-framed “window walls.”

A wide, barrel-vaulted, glass-ceilinged walkway serves as the center of the home, with rooms located on both sides. Many of those rooms sport limestone flooring, high mahogany ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling mahogany-framed “window walls” that open to the outdoors. The primary suite, situated on the main floor, features a serene bathroom with bamboo detailing on the ceiling and a private terrace overlooking the lake.

Elsewhere in the main house, you’ll find a game room with quirky, curving shelving; a media room with a wood-paneled console; and an office with ample room for taking meetings. Aiding the indoor-outdoor vibe is both a screened-in porch and a greenery-filled solarium. Plus, there’s a two-level guest house with its own kitchen and living area.

Across the 18 acres of land, there are plenty of areas designed for you to enjoy a breath of fresh air. Reynolds’s landscaping was meant to evoke Italianate gardens, with Lake Waramaug serving as a stand-in for Lake Como. A reflecting pool offers a space for contemplation among the well-manicured lawn, or you could go for a few laps in the architecturally designed swimming pool.

Connecticut has seen some notable properties hit the market in recent years. Mary Tyler Moore’s former Greenwich home finally sold last month after being listed one and a half years ago. Originally priced at $22 million, it was swept up for just $16.9 million. And last month, a private island off the coast of Darien went up for sale at $35 million. That spread is centered around a six-bedroom, seven-bath New England Colonial home and includes a beachfront pool to boot.
