Apple and Google have been let off the hook, for now, in a products liability suit stemming from a child’s alleged gaming addiction for offering the games in their virtual stores, a federal judge in Illinois recently ruled.
Last week, U.S. District Judge April M. Perry of the Northern District of Illinois granted Apple and Google’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit accusing the companies of negligence because the Google Play and Apple app stores house addictive materials and fail to disclose such information. The plaintiff, Jaclyn Angelilli, partially attributed her minor son D.G.’s gaming addiction to the tech giants, claiming he was able to access games through the virtual stores, ultimately leading to his addiction, according to her complaint.
